Night 1 ChatGPT Warmup

Goal

Start building a habit of working with ChatGPT as a helpful, thoughtful partner — both an educator and a friend. I want you to communicate with ChatGPT in some way every day. Using it for coding doesn't count :-) Tonight is just about exploring how it can support your thinking, creativity, or planning — no tech knowledge required.

Instructions

  1. Pick one role from the list below that sounds interesting to you. These are just suggestions — you can talk about any topic you like. Just remember that you will be talking about your experience tomorrow in class, so don’t make it something you want to keep private or aren’t comfortable sharing with your classmates.

  2. Chat with ChatGPT for 10–15 minutes using that role. Be sure to pick the GPT-5.5 model. Try asking follow-up questions, refining your prompts, and noticing how ChatGPT responds.

  3. Use Obsidian to take notes on your experience while chatting or immediately afterward. Write about:

    • What you were trying to do
    • What you liked or found helpful
    • What you disliked or found confusing
    • Anything that surprised you
    • Anything you might try differently next time

There is no official lab submittal for this. Just have your notes ready in Obsidian and be prepared to present to the class in some form. No slides expected.

Pick a Role (Choose One)

Personality Creator “I wish I could have Carl Sagan over for dinner and talk about Contact. Can you help me create a conversation with him?”

Creative Writing Partner “I want to write a sci-fi short story — help me brainstorm a setting and plot.”

Study Strategist “I have a history test next week. Help me break it into a 4-day review plan.”

College Explorer “I’m interested in computer engineering. What are some careers I should consider in this field?”

Debate Coach “Help me prep arguments for and against school uniforms.” (Or pick a much more interesting topic — ChatGPT is up for anything! :-))

Book Recommender “I loved The Martian, Ender’s Game, and Scythe by Neal Shusterman. What should I read next — and why?”

Personal Organizer “Help me design a weekly routine that balances homework, hobbies, and downtime.”

Goal Planner “I want to get better at photography this summer. Can you help me set a plan?”

Curiosity Explorer “Tell me about three unusual ancient inventions that were ahead of their time.”

Reminder

This is just the beginning of learning how to use ChatGPT well. It can be a tool, a tutor, a planner — or a creative partner. Tonight’s goal is to get curious and experiment.

We’ll share highlights tomorrow morning after the Quiz!
